I made some rice pillows for my kids and for several other family members. I was inspired by Megan at Creative Outlet Designs. She has a wonderful tutorial, which I mostly followed, except I filled my pillows with rice instead of wheat, and I used contrasting fabrics for the front and back of the pillows. ( I just love this Nancy Drew fabric...)
I added some vanilla-lavender essential to the rice for a little scent.
Above is an "empty" pillow. I used Megan's lovely poem (but substituted some of the rhymes since I used rice instead of wheat).
These pillows are great because you can also put them in the freezer and use them to cool you off in the warm summer. I made a mini rice pillow that I now keep in the freezer and take out when little bumps need an ice pack.
