This is where I saw God this week. In my compost pile.
BEAUTIFULLY ROOTED Found Link-Up
"If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me. I will be FOUND by you," says the Lord. Jeremiah 29:13-14
So I am kind of nerdy about my compost pile. I get giddy when I have new bucket of banana peels, potato skins and coffee grounds to dump into the pile. For some reason, it brings me joy to think about how this waste is going to nourish my garden. That it's going to turn into rich soil. That it's trash turned into treasure for my flowers.
As I was dumping this particular load, I had the thought, "I wonder if God feels this joyful giddiness when we willingly come and give our waste to him so that he can transform into fertile soil?"
You know, those behaviors we can't kick, the hateful poems we spin in our heads, our prideful condeming attitudes. When we surrender our gross stuff to our God gardener, he can make it into something wonderful. It will take some rain, fire (heat from the sun) and moldy hard times. But he can break down our waste into something that is fresh and fertile and life-giving.
Lord, take the waste of my life and compost it into something that will bring you glory (and I'm not just talking about a prize-winning tomato).
"For as the soil makes the sprout come up
and a garden causes seeds to grow,
so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness
and praise spring up before all nations." Isaiah 61:11
