17 DAYS until Christmas
Why was Jesus born in a stable or barn next to cows and goats and horses?
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David; to enroll himself with Mary, who was betrothed to him, being great with child. And it came to pass, while they were there, the days were fulfilled that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 4: 4-7 ESV
Many, many people had come to Bethlehem to be counted in the census. By the time Mary and Joseph had arrived, there weren't any rooms left in any of the inns (hotels). We know that they stayed in a stable because Mary laid Jesus in a manger. A manger is a trough—something you put food in to feed your cattle. A manger would only be found in a barn.
